On Vacation!

We are enjoying ourselves on vacation.  I am loving spending time with Matt and the girls.  It’s been a LONG time since we took a week off together just for fun.  We have taken some 4 day weekends but I think the last time we took an entire week was 2005.  That was to Park City Utah and revolved around Masters National cycling races…. Can honestly say that I don’t miss that.  Miss some of the people but not having every part of life revolve around “the bike”.

We drove through the night last Friday.  Or I should say Matt drove through the night.  The kids slept–Alexa pretty well, Piper also pretty well though not as well as A and Tori quite fitfully.  I dozed.  We got to Smithfield, NC around 11AM and found a spot to get the kids out of jammas and into clothes as we couldn’t check into our hotel yet.  The plan was to get a nap and spend the day at the Carolina Premium outlet there.  We shopped till around 2 then got into our hotel where we were able to get much wanted showers and naps.  Then back to shopping.  More shopping Sunday morning then on to Pine Knoll Shores.

Time for the beach……will continue later!

wow, how’s that happen

You send your 11 year old to church camp. She comes back with a new crush. (Came home Friday). Take her to church (not your church) on Sunday evening for the closing events for the week’s camp and she’s practically flying because she gets to see THE boy. Take her out to eat after program and watch the text mmessages start flying. By the time we leave the restaurant, she has a boyfriend. Gotta laugh cause she didn’t even know his last name at that point. And of course this was ALL through a mutual friend. OH, and I love this—-she asked my permission to be his girlfriend. :) They’re 11. They don’t go to the same school or the same church. How long will a text relationship between 2 eleven year olds last? So sure honey, you and have your first boyfriend. awwww

But really…….can I have my little girl back now?

Need an updated picture

That picture at the top is about a year old.  Somehow this summer, I have to get them all in one place and still long enough for a couple good shots to try in the header.  :)   Must update the princesses

Well, that’s decided

The waters at Gulf Shores and Orange Beach are reportedly now closed.  I am sending out inquiries to tons of vacation rental by owner properties all along the NC, SC and GA coast.  Have a feeling we won’t have much luck as so many other people are doing the same.  I’ll give it most of this week then we have to decide on plan C…..Great Lakes or Mountains or something else altogether…..Kids are SO looking forward to a beach though so I’m crossing my fingers.  But NOT holding my breath

Update:  This round of inquiries is going better.  By better I mean I am getting replies, not finding much but I’m at least getting told “not available”.  Do have one so far that is open on Edisto Beach but is a 2 bedroom.  Will wait at least until tomorrow to decide.

figures

We’ve planned our first real vacation in almost 5 years. Made a deposit on a house on the beach months ago for a late July vacation. Where? Gulf Shores, Alabama. I hate to cancel, the whole Gulf area is going to be hit so hard financially but I can’t have my little ones playing in tar balls.

I am so frustrated with the whole situation. Not because of the inconvenience to me but because of the massive damage being done on SO many fronts. The environment is being assaulted like we’ve never seen. Ecosystems are being destroyed, the economy of the region is being destroyed

And where is the outpouring of support for this region of our own country being devastated. Where are the concerts, the fundraisers? Why is it that as a nation we are so giving and quick to help a foreign nation? I understand that most of those nations started with nothing and poor infrastructure. Does that by default make the shrimp farmer who will now lose everything any less deserving of our help? I think that is part of the reason we are so hesitant to cancel our plans. If we go, no–we will likely not be able to enjoy the ocean and maybe not even the beach. But we can find fun things to do while helping to stimulate the economy just a bit. And perhaps we can find a way to help with cleanup efforts. One obviously that would be safe for the girls. We may have a tremendous opportunity. We will do some research, pray and discuss as a family what we should do over the next few days.
