So far, so good

Posted on

Alexa has had quite a bit of homework and cross country practice/meets.  Piper and Tori are excited to help clean…..as long as they get to play with a squirt bottle!  Whatever, it helps.  Went to Lex’s XC meet this evening and stopped off for dinner after.  That was also a huge help because now, I have empty kitchen sinks and a dishwasher ready to accept the breakfast dishes and then get started!

Oh and with less kitchen cleanup, I was able to clean bathrooms tonight.  YAY

Snapped at stoplight…..Alexa and Piper both reading all the way to school. LOVE it

Setting goals

OK, so I am tired of stepping over things constantly.  And of dirty floors and cluttered counters.  I was feeling like I was getting a bit better at finding balance between kids and work.  Then I realized that balance MUST include this house.  It has been neglected.  Woefully neglected.  Like, I won’t invite you in, it’s a pit, neglected.  It’s VERY lived in.

Since we have been following e-Mealz and Total Money Makeover, we’ve been spending more time home.  Time to mess things up?  Or just time to notice how messed up things are?  Whatever…..I’m printing some blank calendars.  I’m adding “house chores”.  Daily chores, weekly chores, monthly chores and seasonal kinds of chores.  EVERYONE is going to be expected to pitch in.  The current chores the kids have will become part of the list.

Honestly, it sounds huge.  But in my heart I don’t really think it will be.  Just need that reminder in front of all of us.  And I’m not going all clean freak here, just want some balance in where the house is too.  Have to get back to getting little people to pick up after themselves.  Then I can quickly vacuum.  Currently that often goes by the wayside because the kids have left SO much stuff laying on the floor, etc.  I’m not crazy enough to think that there won’t be days missed.  I’m positive there will be.  Practices, games, lessons, issues at work that demand attention and heck just plain OLD worn out momma sometimes.  I know we can make an improvement though and I don’t think it will take much.  I hope that it won’t take much.  :)

So, wish me luck with my new grand plan.

Perhaps I should make myself accountable here.  We’ll see!

Next, I have to work on myself and taking MUCH better care of me.  Baby steps.

You send your 11 year old to church camp. She comes back with a new crush. (Came home Friday). Take her to church (not your church) on Sunday evening for the closing events for the week’s camp and she’s practically flying because she gets to see THE boy. Take her out to eat after program and watch the text mmessages start flying. By the time we leave the restaurant, she has a boyfriend. Gotta laugh cause she didn’t even know his last name at that point. And of course this was ALL through a mutual friend. OH, and I love this—-she asked my permission to be his girlfriend. :) They’re 11. They don’t go to the same school or the same church. How long will a text relationship between 2 eleven year olds last? So sure honey, you and have your first boyfriend. awwww

But really…….can I have my little girl back now?

That picture at the top is about a year old.  Somehow this summer, I have to get them all in one place and still long enough for a couple good shots to try in the header.  :)   Must update the princesses

Well, that’s decided

The waters at Gulf Shores and Orange Beach are reportedly now closed.  I am sending out inquiries to tons of vacation rental by owner properties all along the NC, SC and GA coast.  Have a feeling we won’t have much luck as so many other people are doing the same.  I’ll give it most of this week then we have to decide on plan C…..Great Lakes or Mountains or something else altogether…..Kids are SO looking forward to a beach though so I’m crossing my fingers.  But NOT holding my breath

Update:  This round of inquiries is going better.  By better I mean I am getting replies, not finding much but I’m at least getting told “not available”.  Do have one so far that is open on Edisto Beach but is a 2 bedroom.  Will wait at least until tomorrow to decide.

We’ve planned our first real vacation in almost 5 years. Made a deposit on a house on the beach months ago for a late July vacation. Where? Gulf Shores, Alabama. I hate to cancel, the whole Gulf area is going to be hit so hard financially but I can’t have my little ones playing in tar balls.

I am so frustrated with the whole situation. Not because of the inconvenience to me but because of the massive damage being done on SO many fronts. The environment is being assaulted like we’ve never seen. Ecosystems are being destroyed, the economy of the region is being destroyed

And where is the outpouring of support for this region of our own country being devastated. Where are the concerts, the fundraisers? Why is it that as a nation we are so giving and quick to help a foreign nation? I understand that most of those nations started with nothing and poor infrastructure. Does that by default make the shrimp farmer who will now lose everything any less deserving of our help? I think that is part of the reason we are so hesitant to cancel our plans. If we go, no–we will likely not be able to enjoy the ocean and maybe not even the beach. But we can find fun things to do while helping to stimulate the economy just a bit. And perhaps we can find a way to help with cleanup efforts. One obviously that would be safe for the girls. We may have a tremendous opportunity. We will do some research, pray and discuss as a family what we should do over the next few days.
