Ridiculously long update

Posted on

I’ll apologize in advance, sorry for the length of this one.  My fault for letting WAY too much time slip without blogging.

All 3 of my girls ran track this summer with the local USATF affiliated track club.  We decided to get Tori a singlet and let her practice with her sisters since she was hanging out at the track while they practiced and Matt coached.  She, Piper and Alexa competed in some local meets here in town.  Alexa also competed in the USATF Jr Olympics.  She ran at the State level and advanced to Regional level in both the 800 meter and 15oo meter.  At Regionals (near Chicago), she advanced to the National meet in the 800 meters.  She worked SOOOO hard and accomplished her goal of advancing in that particular race.  Nationals were held in Wichita this year…..in 110+ degree heat.  Not her best race but what a marvelous experience for her, running at the USATF Jr Olympic NATIONAL meet!

That really was most of our summer, practices and meets……

Oh, I suppose it was a completely new type of summer for the kids.  Since my husband has been working from home, the girls didn’t go to summer day camp.  They were able to stay home during the day with him.  Now, whether that was good or bad was a day by day opinion.  LOL.  The older 2 girls were used to going to summer day camp with a lot of friends from school and LOTS of activities and outings.  Some days they said they were beyond bored and missing their friends.  Let me tell you though, they did NOT object to sleeping in!

The week after nationals (which also happened to be the week before school started), we finally headed out on vacation.  We rented a house in Gulf Shores, AL (Ft Morgan area actually).  We drove down with our 3 girls and a good friend of Alexa’s (since preschool!).  Had a wonderfully relaxing time.  LOTS of time on the beach, the house was in a subdivision right on the beach so we had plenty of sand and surf with very few people to share it with!  The girls went on their first ferry ride and got a little education at the Estuarium at Dauphin Island.  But mostly, they had plenty of sand and sea and togetherness.

We had a few days back at home and then it was back to school.  All 3 girls are now in school.  My baby girl started Kindergarten!  Cross Country season has come and gone with Alexa running (and developing some leadership skills as one of the older girls) and Matt coaching again this year.  Basketball season has now started for Alexa and the little girls brought home forms for Upward basketball & Cheer (both want to cheer).

Report cards just came home for the first grading quarter.  They were all 3 really good, looks like they got off to a good start!

Me, just keep getting up, going to work, chasing kids, trying to make it all work!  Life is good!

AGAIN–really?

ANOTHER two hour delay. Are these kids ever going to be a le to get into a routine? This winter has not been bad, yet All 6 (4 in sole cases) built in snow days have been used. And there have been plenty of 2 hour delays added in as well.

Don’t get me wrong, I want kids to be safe. I never remember being out for so little. Perhaps the risk ot litigation is the difference. That and maybe common sense has become an even more rare beast than it was 30 or so years ago. Put those 2 together an I get it. Really I do. But there has to be a middle ground somewhere. Maybe that is what the delays represent, the middle ground. OK, enough blowing off steam. I need to get my kids to thier alternate arrangements and get to work.

CRAZY WEATHER

We set record highs this past week.  Had to turn on the AC.  In APRIL!  It was 86 mid week.  This weekend? 60′s…..  And let’s not even talk about the yellow plague that is pollen.  Seriously…..How much more of that stuff can there be?  :)

Track, art class, groceries yesterday.  Hubs got the grass cut yesterday.  Today, going to try to get some things done in the house.  Surfing eBay to look at dresses, promised the middle daughter that she could get a special dress for her “Kindergarten Celebration” that is coming up much too quickly!  I also need to get the younger girls birthday party invitations ready for the mailbox.  They just need to be stamped.  And sometime convince the oldest to come home from her overnight at her friends house.

Proud of her.

I’ve sent out emails/requests to 2 universities about their MSN programs.  It’s been almost a week and I’ve heard nothing back yet.  Not a good first impression.  Think I will go ahead and request info from a couple other schools I was looking at as well.  I want to get this ball moving before I can convince myself to wait a while longer.  I just turned 40…..it’s time to get moving!  :)

Labor Day = Family time

Matt and I took the girls to Mesker Zoo today and then to Denny’s afterward since everyone was “starving”.  Maybe they really were starving because Alexa and Piper ate EVERYTHING.  Tori….didn’t eat much of her meal but plenty of everyone elses.  :)

Posing inside Amazonia

Yummy grilled shrimp ceasar salads tonight (except for the 2 kids that decided to have ranch instead of ceasar) and now getting everyone down for the night.  Tomorrow is full swing back into the grind.  DH & I must go back to work, A & P have school, T has pre-school and A has an ‘away’ cross country meet after school.  Here we go!

Cookbook creation

Posted on

The PTF (Parent Teacher Fellowship) at the school A and P attend is creating a cookbook. If you have a recipe you’d like to share, the girls and I would be happy to get it into the format for their cookbook. I’m going through my Mom’s recipe box to find cards that she used a lot (obvious from the stains, worn edges, etc) and get those printed in the cookbook. The recipes have to be turned in by October 15.
