Ridiculously long update

Posted on

I’ll apologize in advance, sorry for the length of this one.  My fault for letting WAY too much time slip without blogging.

All 3 of my girls ran track this summer with the local USATF affiliated track club.  We decided to get Tori a singlet and let her practice with her sisters since she was hanging out at the track while they practiced and Matt coached.  She, Piper and Alexa competed in some local meets here in town.  Alexa also competed in the USATF Jr Olympics.  She ran at the State level and advanced to Regional level in both the 800 meter and 15oo meter.  At Regionals (near Chicago), she advanced to the National meet in the 800 meters.  She worked SOOOO hard and accomplished her goal of advancing in that particular race.  Nationals were held in Wichita this year…..in 110+ degree heat.  Not her best race but what a marvelous experience for her, running at the USATF Jr Olympic NATIONAL meet!

That really was most of our summer, practices and meets……

Oh, I suppose it was a completely new type of summer for the kids.  Since my husband has been working from home, the girls didn’t go to summer day camp.  They were able to stay home during the day with him.  Now, whether that was good or bad was a day by day opinion.  LOL.  The older 2 girls were used to going to summer day camp with a lot of friends from school and LOTS of activities and outings.  Some days they said they were beyond bored and missing their friends.  Let me tell you though, they did NOT object to sleeping in!

The week after nationals (which also happened to be the week before school started), we finally headed out on vacation.  We rented a house in Gulf Shores, AL (Ft Morgan area actually).  We drove down with our 3 girls and a good friend of Alexa’s (since preschool!).  Had a wonderfully relaxing time.  LOTS of time on the beach, the house was in a subdivision right on the beach so we had plenty of sand and surf with very few people to share it with!  The girls went on their first ferry ride and got a little education at the Estuarium at Dauphin Island.  But mostly, they had plenty of sand and sea and togetherness.

We had a few days back at home and then it was back to school.  All 3 girls are now in school.  My baby girl started Kindergarten!  Cross Country season has come and gone with Alexa running (and developing some leadership skills as one of the older girls) and Matt coaching again this year.  Basketball season has now started for Alexa and the little girls brought home forms for Upward basketball & Cheer (both want to cheer).

Report cards just came home for the first grading quarter.  They were all 3 really good, looks like they got off to a good start!

Me, just keep getting up, going to work, chasing kids, trying to make it all work!  Life is good!

If you haven’t had a chance yet, check out Matt’s current job:

ATP Clothing

Share the link to the store please. Would love to see it grow even more…even to the point of outgrowing the garage and needing it’s own space. :)

Trying…

Trying to get into a rhythm with blogging again but struggling.

It’s been a busy couple weeks at work with a new system being trained and then a go-live.  Have another in a month….much smaller scale but still plenty to do.  Staying very busy.

Cross Country season is over.  Basketball season is here.  Smooth transition into that.  Still working out practice carpooling schedules.

Still trying to keep with the family chore schedule.  Goes great somedays other days it’s a miserable fail.  BUT, that is still better than every day being a FAIL.  I’ll take the small victories.

That is the name that the girls have given Matt’s car.  (It is a Suzuki Grand Vitara).  Well, Su is headed to the shop tomorrow.  We think she may be terminal this time.  Matt thinks that it may be the seal on the rear axle.

You see, Su is a 2000 Grand Vitara that currently has 250,000 miles on it.  It won’t take much of a repair to finally qualify as “too much”.

It has been a great car, gotten us through some of the rare Indiana 2 foot snow (that never gets removed except by nature from the side streets–because it just doesn’t happen often enough to keep that kind of equipment) and much more common southern Indiana snow storms.  Lots of road trips to bike races.  Oh, and it was MY car to start with.  I drove it until the day I went to the hospital with Tori and knew that we would not be able to fit all 3 kids in to bring her home.  I only took over the van at that point.  :)

So we will have the car looked at in the morning and then decide if we cross the state line and head into Kentucky on Sunday (no auto sales in Indiana on Sunday) to look for another beater.  Matt puts far too many miles on a car for work to get a nice car and we simple refuse to go into debt any further for a car.  Yes D.R., we are listening.  We are SO close to debt free that we just can’t stand the thought of owing again.  We will find something for 5k or under and it will work well for transporting hubby and his repair supplies all over the area.  Unfortunately, we won’t be able to do much on Friday or Saturday due to other activities already planned (School’s Fall Family Fun nighton Friday and middle school State XC championships in Carmel, IN on Saturday)

Crossing our fingers that we are overreacting to the symptoms!

***UPDATE*** looks like it is not as bad as he thought. Mechanic is checking on parts but we think she will continue to be a part of our family for a while longer. In the meantime we will keep working on the last bit of our debt snowball and saving to replace her with cash.

The longest “short” week ever

Nothing much to say other than ask this question:  Was last week like the longest short work week EVER?  It didn’t seem to want to end!
